This is one of a series of paintings that Canada’s Charles Pachter produced honoring the memory of the 18th century British military presence in his home province then known as Upper Canada. The Queen’s rangers under Major Simcoe’s command played a key role in developing and defending the new territory. This ad was written by Simcoe who was charged with recruitingyoung soldiers. “Any spirited young man will receive every encouragement, be immediately mounted on an elegant horse, and furnished with clothing, accoutrements, etc. to the amount of forty guineas, by applying to Cornet Spencer at Hewitt's tavern."Pop artist, Charles Pachter is a painter, printmaker, sculptor, historian and author. A graduate of the University of Toronto and the Sorbonne-Paris, he is an Officer of the Order of Canada, a Chevalier of France's Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, and twice a recipient of the Queen's Jubilee medal. Pachter has honorary Doctorate degrees from the Ontario College of Art & Design, the University of Toronto and Brock University. His paintings are in public and private collections around the world.
