Like a fragment of blurred film, abstract shapes saturated in red, fuschia, violet, green, blue and white flicker from right to left in this five feet long mixed media work. The work begins with an archival chromogenic print (1/1) mounted on a hand constructed multilayered wood base and then perfectly coated in high gloss resin. "Recalling the hard-edged color-field and the elemental geometry of mid to late twentieth century post painterly abstraction, minimalism and op-art, these works use digital imaging as a means to navigate the territory between photography and painting, mixing references to photography, painting and television display technology." Combining craftsmanship with digital technology in an attempt to create a hybrid art object, the series call to mind 'the sophisticated ideal' of modernity, high technology and urbanity as desired both personally and culturally" Franco DeFrancesca A native of Toronto, Franco DeFrancesca graduated from OCAD in 1990 and returned to the University of Guelph in 2004-05 to further his studies after 15 years working as a graphic designer.
