Julia Reimer's work selected for AFA collection

Alberta artist Julia Reimer recently made history when her piece, “Cocoon,” was selected out of hundreds of submissions for the Alberta Foundation for the Arts permanent collection. The AFA collection is considered the premier collection of Alberta art, highlighting work that displays creativity, skill, and innovation. “Cocoon” was created by Reimer during an artist residency in Australia during 2012 “This particular work of sculpted glass was inspired by the every day miracle that is the force of life unfolding before our eyes,” says Reimer. This is the fourth piece of Reimer’s work collected by the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, the first three being “ The AFA permanent collection also recognizes Alberta artists who are historically important individuals in the growth of the visual arts in Alberta.

Reimer’s career as a glass artist is marked by successes both at home and internationally. Her work can be found in galleries across Canada and in numerous public, corporate, and private collections, including the collection of the Emperor and Empress of Japan. Reimer currently lives in Black Diamond, Alberta, where she owns and operates Firebrand Glass Studio with her partner and fellow artist Tyler Rock.
