About the Work

Thick impasto of red-orange action taches and incised lines over butane blue that peeks through this scaffolding driving the eye towards the mosaic of colours at the lower right. Action painting is powerfully re-invented by Cohen, a New Yorker steeped in the heroic vision of Abstraction Expressionism. Adam Cohen born in New Jersey in 1959, studied with artist Lilian Marzell, a friend of Willem de Kooning. Cohen earned his BFA at Philadelphia's Tyler School of Art at Temple University which included a year of painting in Rome. Returning to New York he studied at the School of Visual Arts, the Arts Students League and Parsons School of Design. Cohen has exhibited in Italy, Holland, New Jersey, New York and Ontario. His work is in numerous private collections. In 2015, he was awarded the International Art Prize Giuseppe Gambino in Venice, Italy.
