About the Work

Restless vertical rents through a kaleidoscope impasto overlaid with white pull the composition into and down the centre of this square canvas. The melting physicality of the image aptly reflected in its title merges the language of abstract expressionism with narrative. Adam Cohen born in New Jersey in 1959, studied with artist Lilian Marzell, a friend of Willem de Kooning. Cohen earned his BFA at Philadelphia's Tyler School of Art at Temple University which included a year of painting in Rome. Returning to New York he studied at the School of Visual Arts, the Arts Students League and Parsons School of Design. Cohen has exhibited in Italy, Holland, New Jersey, New York and Ontario. His work is in numerous private collections. In 2015, he was awarded the International Art Prize Giuseppe Gambino in Venice, Italy.
