The light shining on the gel painted transparent Plexiglas creates shadows on the wall suggesting an extension from the surface into an echoing world beyond the perceptive exterior. I use Optics, the branch of physics, which involves the behavior and properties of light and reflection to emphasize the complexity of relationship between the conscious and the unconscious as materiality. I work like a scientist exploring hidden laws of the visible and the invisible process, always as presence, but not always understood. Through this process I wanted to collapse the notion of time, which closely relates to materiality of the body, and to shine the light on the shadow, a major factor of human experience. In the process, the viewer gets to explore the possibility of in-between space, as a new potential for humanity. –Ania Machudera In this body of work Machudera has created works that range in size from 46 x46 inches to 72x72 inches.
