Canadian modernists Avron Mintz and Gord Smith collaborated on this dramatic geometric outdoor sculpture. Three large geometric cubes made of corten steel are stacked on one another creating the optical illusion of being at once solid and hollow. In his late 70’s, Mintz took a leap into personal creativity with astonishing results and numerous commissions. Mintz's collaborator and friend, Gord Smith studied Architecture and Engineering at Sir George Williams University. In 1967, he was elected to the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts (RCA). Commissions and collaborations with architects include Webb Zefara Menkes, Arthur Erickson, Bregman Hamman, Leslie Rebanks and Gene Kinoshita. Smith's work is in the collections of many major institutions including the National Gallery of Canada and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.
