Charles Pachter has become famous for his paintings of the moose, a symbol of the Canadian wilderness. As a little boy, the Toronto born pop artist once appeared in a short film in which he petted a moose. Pachter attributes that early encounter for his lifelong love of the image. “So, I was an impressionable young kid and what I didn’t realize is how much a childhood experience became something of an imprinting for my entire career as an adult.” Charles PachterIn this painting, the sheer size of the moose is compared to a full moon making the silhouette of the animal appear all the more majestic.A painter, printmaker, sculptor, designer and author, Pachter is a graduate of the University of Toronto and the Sorbonne-Paris. He is an Officer of the Order of Canada, a Chevalier of France's Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, and twice a recipient of the Queen's Jubilee medal. He has honorary doctorate degrees from the Ontario College of Art & Design, the University of Toronto and Brock University. Pachter is a much-celebrated Canadian contemporary artist and his work is found in galleries and private collections the world over.
