About The Double Voice

In this haunting print Charles Pachter’s drawing accompanies Margaret Atwood’s opus book of poetry, “The Journals of Susanna Moodie” that re-imagined the life of a 19th century pioneer. Atwood, a long-time friend had sent Pachter a copy of the book hoping he would illustrate it.“…it took my breath away. I knew it was a masterpiece the minute I read it. And all I wanted to do was pay it homage; I wanted to make sure I could give the poems, enhance them the way they should be.” Charles PachterThe resulting book is considered a national treasure produced by two beloved Canadian artists.A painter, printmaker, sculptor, designer and author, Pachter is a graduate of the University of Toronto and the Sorbonne-Paris. He is an Officer of the Order of Canada, a Chevalier of France's Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, and twice a recipient of the Queen's Jubilee medal.
