About Outcrop 12
On her walks through the ancient forests that surround her Northern Ontario home artist Cheryl Wilson Smith finds inspiration in the beauty of the natural world. Her distinctive glass pieces are hand built—layer upon layer of glass frit (ground glass) to create uniquely stunning compositions. Outcrop 12 resembles the earthy coloured palette—black and gray with flecks of red and the texture of ancient granite. One in a series.“I am fortunate to spend a bit of most days in the forest…I want to share the peace and wonder I find there.” Cheryl Wilson Smith
She was the 2014 winner of the RBC Award for Glass through the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery. Wilson Smith has received nine grants from the Ontario Arts Council and one from the Canada Council. Commissions include the Red Lake District Heritage Centre, Margaret Cochenor Memorial Hospital Donor wall. She is the recipient of the prestigious Chalmers Fellowship from the Ontario Arts Council which allowed her to work in Scotland in 2023. Her work has been exhibited widely across Canada, in the UK and the US.
