About Point d'appui

This dramatic, highly polished stainless-steel sculpture was created by Quebec artist Claude Millette. Bold geometric shapes—an impressive support (in French, ‘point d’appui’ means ‘support’) holds up a square frame with a circular cut-out that sits on four solid wedge-shaped forms. Millette’s powerful abstract work is designed to play with the viewer’s perception of balance and imbalance—one of life’s challenges.

“Though staunchly non-figurative, my productions are not strictly abstractions per se: from the moment the gesture expresses an emotion or a reflection, the work is imbued with feeling.” Claude Millette

Born in Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec, Millette studied at the École de sculpture de Saint-Jean-Port-Joli and apprenticed with sculptors Robert Poulin and Jordi Bonet. Millette's works have been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions.
