About the Work

Steel wrenches are molded into a large mask and hair that is pulled back in a dynamic gesture. This dramatic, indoor sculpture is mounted on a steel pole. The title of the work was inspired by the points of the spanners which, for the artist, brought to mind the Old Testament story of Absalom who sought to unseat his father, King David. Absalom's life came to an end one day as he was riding under some trees and his long hair became entangled in thorny branches. He was unhorsed and suspended in a tree where his foes discovered him.
