A vividly coloured bouquet of balloons is propelled by a strong wind current lifting the figure from the earth. Each figure is finely crafted in hand-hammered steel.
Derya Ozparlak's sculptures show the angst and conflict of life and the illusion of emancipation from this struggle through being shackled to the balloons.Since completing a BFA from the Anadolu University in Turkey, Ozparlak has exhibited in Toronto, Chicago, Almeria in Spain, Beirut , Berlin, New York City, Palermo and across Turkey. Her artwork is held in private and corporate collections in Canada, Istanbul, Berlin and Capri.
"The balloons evolved into an open concept representing the illusions, people feel about hope and freedom in reality many people are tied to their past life experiences and prevents them from truly realizing their aspirations." - Derya Ozparlak
