About Umbrellas and Radio
Artist Dmitry Yuzefovich remembers—details, colours, textures and images from his life in the Ukraine. Using a trompe l’oeil technique to great effect, he renders nostalgic and realistic paintings that recall a rich and somewhat mysterious past. The bright colour palette of this engaging piece—a collection of umbrellas hanging on nails in an entryway in blue, red, purple, burgundy and black immediately draws the viewer’s eye. The background wall is dilapidated—torn and faded wallpaper in a soft green and brown; a few numbers appear randomly stencilled on it. A small transistor radio sits on a metal shelf.“I continue to use my realistic style because I believe in the details. Details are God. Details talk to people. My realistic style is my language.” Dmitry Yuzefovich
Born in Ukraine, Yuzefovich obtained a BFA from the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem, Israel in 2000 and an MFA in 2005. He moved to Canada with his family in 2015 and lives in Nova Scotia. Yuzefovich has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions. His paintings have been collected in Israel, Canada, the US, England and Europe.
