About Red Whirl

Canadian multidisciplinary artist Kenneth Emig’s contemporary wall sculptures play with light, colour and depth perception to create captivating visual experiences. This light box in glowing red, yellow and black geometric patterns uses led lighting, mirrors and glass to draw the viewer’s eye into its infinite whirling circles. The artwork’s light intensity is controlled by an architectural quality dimmer to adapt it to the surrounding environment.

“I explore perceptions, senses and environment, influenced by the spatial understanding of a dancer, the sensorial understanding of an acoustician, and the process, methods and materials of high-tech research and design.” Kenneth Emig

He received diplomas in Acoustics Engineering and Electronic Engineering from George Brown College in Toronto before working for Bell-Northern Research, The National Research Council of Canada, Ryerson University and Research in Motion. Emig has won multiple grants from the Ontario Arts Council, the Canada Council and the City of Ottawa for his visual art, performance, and dance works. The artist has completed three public art commissions in Ottawa for the University of Ottawa LRT Station, the Adawe Crossing and the Eva James Memorial Community Centre.
