A shiny stainless-steel lodgepole pine cone created by Canadian sculptor Floyd Elzinga glints in the sunlight. The lodgepole pine is one of the most adaptable and abundant towering tree species in British Columbia. It’s the first to come back from wildfires and can live up to 150 years. Elzinga’s work merges pop art with iconic imagery from the Canadian landscape to create fun and inspired pieces from steel. “The natural world is fundamentally my inspiration, and it is strongly reflected in my subject matter.” Floyd Elzinga His cone sculptures have been featured as part of Toronto’s Scotiabank Nuit Blanche celebration of contemporary art, and his work is held in collections across Ontario and in the US. Floyd Elzinga received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design in Halifax, NS.
