This stunning steel sculpture by Floyd Elzinga is one of a series of outdoor sculptures he has produced in his studio on the rugged Niagara escarpment. The Canadian sculptor merges traditional Canadian imagery—the pine cone, maple leaf and pine branch with non-traditional industrial materials. This large piece will continue to weather over time only enhancing its natural patina. Elzinga’s pieces are both playful—pop art and inspiring.
“The natural world is fundamentally my inspiration, and it is strongly reflected in my subject matter.” Floyd Elzinga
His pinecone sculptures have been featured as part of Toronto’s Scotiabank Nuit Blanche celebration of contemporary art, and his work is held in collections across Ontario and in the US. Elzinga received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design in Halifax, NS.
