Floyd Elzinga’s arresting sculptures are extraordinary. From his studio on the Niagara Ontario escarpment, Elzinga creates playful, pop art pieces that focus on iconic Canadian imagery—the pine cone, the maple leaf and trees.
This large outdoor sculpture is a pine cone resting on the ground as if it had just fallen from a tree. Hand forged from corten steel, the patina is naturally rust-coloured and time will only enhance its weathered appearance.
“Floyd does in three dimensions what the Group of Seven did in two, his style is particularly his own”. – J. Long, art critic
His pinecone sculptures have been featured as part of Toronto’s Scotiabank Nuit Blanche celebration of contemporary art, and his work is held in collections across Ontario and in the US. Elzinga received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design in Halifax, NS.
