About Pine Cone 23-132

Pine cones—you’ll find them scattered on the ground in every Canadian pine forest. This iconic image has been popularized by sculptor Floyd Elzinga. His remarkable pieces forged from weathering steel emulate the natural shape and colour of pine cones. This large outdoor piece sits on the ground as if it had fallen there. Elzinga’s inspired art is playful pop art that marries organic form with industrial materials.

“I am continually surprised and inspired by a new property that the material reveals and a whole new style or body of work results. I love the way light plays off the surface.” Floyd Elzinga

His pinecone sculptures have been featured as part of Toronto’s Scotiabank Nuit Blanche celebration of contemporary art, and his work is held in collections across Ontario and in the US. Elzinga received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design in Halifax, NS.
