Metropolis Gráinne McHugh

Two ceramic busts, glazed with an intricate view of a nocturnal city skyline, sit in silent communication. Sculptor Gráinne McHugh creates enigmatic figures that are beautiful but discomposed. “For me the focal points of images around which a narrative forms are archaic, compulsive, and wild at heart.” Gráinne McHugh (b. 1982 Drogheda) trained as an artist in Ireland and has exhibited extensively in South Africa — where she lived for several years. She has been part of exhibitions in Germany, Ireland, and Portugal. Her first solo show was in North America in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. McHugh’s work is held in private collections in Canada, Ireland, and South Africa.
