About Orange Around
This joyful ‘spoke’ painting by abstract artist Harold Feist is rendered in brilliant orange, turquoise, bright green, and a hint of black. Feist discovered the flexible, simple format of bands of colour radiating out from the centre of the canvas like ‘spokes’ on a wheel. One of the earlier ‘spoke’ paintings, ‘Orange Around’ is part of a formatted series—wheels of colour that Feist returned to again and again throughout his career.“The viewer could look at the picture, see the spokes, see that it all more or less followed a system then maybe—having been enticed straight in through the front door see the painting as a painting.” Harold Feist
