An imposing figure, he stands tall, head held high, hands at his side and as the name suggests he appears to be on guard. (Sentinel) This is the extraordinary work of American artist Jason Kimes best known for creating large contemporary sculptures. Kimes used thousands of individual small cylinders of corten steel, hand welded together to produce this piece. Designed for the outdoors, corten steel weathers well and will continue to acquire an attractive rust-coloured patina.
“ I am drawn to make work that is permanent… to try to make things that have the potential to stay around; to outlive myself, I guess.” Jason Kimes
He completed a BFA in Sculpture from the University of Southern Mississippi and a MFA in Sculpture from Southern Illinois University in 2005. Since then, he has completed multiple commissions and taken part in exhibitions across the US. His work is held in private and corporate collections.
