About Pink with Sage Green

A bouquet of creamy coloured flowers in a sage green vase pops against a field of deep pink. Vivid colours, expressive form and rich textures are Jennifer Hornyak’s signature. Known for her abstract and figurative work in vivid colours, she is inspired by both German Expressionism and the early 20th century French Fauvist masters such as Matisse. Hornyak achieves such rich textures by applying layer upon layer of glaze.

“People think I’m painting still life. But I have to say they’re not. They’re abstractions. I use the flower as a metaphor for myself. “ Jennifer Hornyak

She studied at the Grimsby School of Art in England. In 1961, she moved to Montreal where she attended McGill University, the Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal and the Centre Saidye Bronfman. Hornyak has exhibited throughout North America and Europe including the Paris World Exhibition in 1987 where her work was shown alongside that of Modigliani, Picasso and van Dongen. Hornyak’s work is represented in many private and corporate collections.
