Metaphors of time, space, earth and its elements are reflected in the elegant and glowing glass sculptures by Canadian artist John Paul Robinson. This large, stunning glass and metal piece, in colours of deep red to orange mimics the mesmerizing flames of a fire. In western culture, fire and water are essential elements of the earth that sustain life.
“It’s important to me that my work be about something. So, I spend a lot of time reading, writing and basically researching ideas and issues that inform my work.” John Paul Robinson
He was educated at the Georgian College of Arts and Technology and the Ontario College of Art where he later taught for a number of years. Robinson is a Fellow of The Creative Glass Center of America, recipient of the Joan Chalmers Glass Award and has twice received the Best Glass Award at the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition.
