About Quiet Still
A magnificent big sky caught at sunset is rendered in grand strokes of yellow, blue, mauve and white in this new mixed media piece by Julie Himel. The horizon line sits above a farmer’s field interpreted in earthy tones of brown, yellow and blue. Himel is known for her colourful abstracted work inspired by moments and memories of time spent in nature. The title of this piece is bittersweet for HImel, a devoted environmentalist as this field is slated for development.“I want the light to bounce off the work, for you to be able to move around the work and feel differently from different angles because of that physicality I want the mark to be alive and very interactive.” Julie Himel
She completed a BFA at York University with additional studies at the Toronto School of Art and Langara College in Vancouver. Himel has been painting professionally for more than 20 years. Her award-winning paintings can be found in private, corporate and public collections.
