This lovely, abstracted landscape was Inspired by fond memories spent in the northern Ontario cottage Julie Himel’s grandfather built as a young man. The colours are soft and muted shades of grays, black, white, yellow, a touch of blue and a mint-green sky—symbolic of the crisp, cool air. Himel, a devoted environmentalist, is known for her inventive use of colour and her dream-like paintings of nature.
“It’s called saving calendars for that sweet emotion of wanting to mark an event and remember it forever.” Julie Himel
She completed a BFA at York University with additional studies at the Toronto School of Art and Langara College in Vancouver. Himel has been painting professionally for more than 20 years. Her award-winning paintings can be found in private, corporate and public collections.
