About the Work

Two yoked oxen pull a red cart in this charming springtime painting by folk artist Maud Lewis. Tulips line the country road. The painting is signed and framed. Framed dimensions 18.5 x 20.25 inches. Lewis is one of Canada's best known and loved folk artists. Her work can be found in the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, which has reconstructed her house and installed it in the gallery as part of a permanent Maud Lewis exhibit. Created in bright, solid colors with a limited use of perspective, Lewis's paintings are joyful and depict the artist's surroundings with humor and affection. "Maudie", a film based on the life of Maud Lewis was released in the spring of 2017. Starring Ethan Hawke and Sally Hawkins, it captures the essence of her constrained life, and the paintings that allowed her imagination to escape its confines.
