About Ascent

Canadian Sculptor Roch Smith is highly regarded for his provocative and playful contemporary artwork. Cast in bronze, this sculpture revisits a favoured theme—the human desire and struggle to conquer seemingly impossible tasks. A figure clothed in a suit attempts to climb a huge steel ladder—the rungs towering above him.

"I really don’t have a clear idea of what the figure will achieve or see at the top of the ladder but I am impressed with his commitment to the climb – one rung at a time.”
