Strong lines and rich colours define an urban landscape in this compelling minimalist work by Pat Service. This is one of a series of paintings created from memories associated with the many road trips the Canadian artist has taken over the years. The downtown cityscape of ‘Corner’ is rendered in a contemporary colour palette--a deep purple, the outline of a building in red, a street sign in bright green, a red fire hydrant, the road edged in white and yellow. Together these images suggest a narrative that asks the viewer, what’s around the corner?
“The road trip again becomes an excuse for the fun of putting strange marks, shapes, textures and colours together, to make something no-one has seen before.” Pat Service
She acquired a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of B.C. and later studied art at the Glasgow School of Art in Scotland. Service’s work is held in private collections in North America, Britain, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
