The enduring serenity of an empty beach-- sky and sea a gorgeous turquoise is rendered in this charming landscape by Pat Service. A stand of evergreens lines the shore, the sand a soft brown curves gently into the distance. Pale washes of colour—yellow, white and blue in the cloud filled sky blur the horizon line that meets the blue waters. This painting hung in Service’s house for 15 years. It was created from the memory of a beautiful day spent on the beach in the town of Port Renfrew on Vancouver Island.
“Port Renfrew itself is a quiet place, full of smells of the forest and shore, sounds of the wind in the trees, and sights of the dark waters of streams coming down to the ocean. I feel very close to this part of Vancouver Island because where I grew up in Port Alberni was similar. You feel close to the land. “Pat Service
