About Peonies, Etc.

Admired for their lush beauty, the peony, an ancient flower is celebrated in this charming floral portrait by Pat Service. The Canadian artist is known for her intuitive sense of colour, pattern and form displayed in many different genres. In the 1990s Service chose to explore the art of painting a more traditional piece—the floral still life.
While the subject is classic, the colour palette is fresh and modern—a bouquet of different flowers—white peonies, purple hollyhocks, pink snapdragons, yellow mums and orange daisies arranged in a turquoise vase set against a patterned backdrop of turquoise and melon stripes.

“In the mid to late 90’s it seemed to be a time to slow down. It is common for me to go crazy for a while putting my own spin on things and then for a change I will try to calm down. With these pictures…I just wanted to do a very good painting in a more traditional manner.” Pat Service

Pat Service acquired a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of B.C. and later studied art at the Glasgow School of Art in Scotland. Service’s work is held in private collections in North America, Britain, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, and Hong Kong.

Pat Service is represented exclusively by the Oeno Gallery.
