The polished surface of this off white rectangular shape is articulated with fissures created through the interaction of fibreglass filaments inserted into the wet porcelain clay before firing. The piece is set on end, rising upwards to a tapered, jagged edge. It is set on a sharply rectangular, flat stone base. The materials and title of this piece speak to the simultaneity of fragility and strength. Murray has received many honours and awards and was elected into the RCA in 2006. Her award-winning work has earned international acclaim and has been given to dignitaries such as US President George W. Bush and UN Secretary Kofi Annan by the Canadian government. Murray’s pieces can be found in private and public collections including Canadian Museum of Civilization, the Banff Centre, the Gardiner Museum, Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec.
