Mountie II Peter Hoffer
- Acrylic, Oil, Pigment on Jute
- 47 × 71 inches
119.4 × 180.3 cm
The iconic presence of a Mountie in red serge on a ghostly white horse is set against the epic backdrop of a forested landscape. Peter Hoffer's paintings evoke nostalgia for classical, romantic forms and periods. Here he seems to look to the sublime in the 18th century paintings of John Constable. In his expansive, romantic landscapes Constable would indicate the presence of man through the use of red. In this painting, the artist has used a clay pigment that results in a naturally and mildly 'distressed' appearance to the surface. This is in keeping with the artists themes and all of his works. This work is unframed.
