About Nuthatch II

A beautifully rendered nuthatch sits in the center of this new work by Peter Hoffer. Known for his beautiful landscapes, Hoffer has chosen to honour a little bird that is indigenous to both North America and parts of Europe. Known for its distinctive loud call, the Nuthatch gets its name from its habit of dislodging the seeds from large nuts and acorns by whacking them against tree bark. The ‘canvas’ for this delightful acrylic painting are rustic floorboards salvaged from the artist’s cottage in the Laurentians. The warm colour palette—a tapestry of rich browns, turquoise blues, red, yellow and white adds dynamic contrast.

“Inconsistencies including discoloration and surface cracking are intentional and integral to the resin paintings. Random scratches, sporadic markings and various abrasions may appear throughout the shell of these works.” Peter Hoffer

He holds an MFA. from Concordia University and degrees from the University of Guelph and OCAD University. Hoffer has lived and worked in Toronto, New York City, Paris, Montreal and Berlin. He has exhibited widely at art fairs in Basel, Toronto, New York, Stockholm, London, Milan, Amsterdam and Hong Kong. His paintings are held in many private, corporate and public collections.
