About the Work
A tall tree with lopsided leafy top and lower branches missing is framed by black and gold silhouettes of fern fronds and a sky of mauve and turquoise. The lone tree dominates the square picture plane of this acrylic on board. The artist's skilled rendering reminiscent of the landscapes of Lorraine or Constable is scarified then finished with a layer of resin. The work evokes nostalgia for classical, romantic forms and periods. Peter Hoffer (b. Brantford, ON 1965) holds a MFA. from Concordia University and degrees from the University of Guelph and the Ontario College of Art. He has lived and worked in Toronto, New York City, Paris and now divides his time between Montreal and Berlin. Hoffer has exhibited widely at art fairs in Basel, Toronto, New York, Stockholm, London, Milan, Amsterdam and Hong Kong. His paintings are held in many private, corporate and public collections including the Musèe des Beaux Arts, the Musèe du Quèbec and the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery.
