In this dramatic abstract sculpture by Robert Clarke Ellis a silhouette of a figure, broad chest puffed up in confidence, strides boldly forward towards the viewer. Constructed of laser-cut steel and painted black, the sculpture absorbs light and casts its own curious shadow. Clarke Ellis’s new work integrates minimalist forms with playful, even theatrical themes. “The figurative elements in my pieces lend themselves to experiential opportunities for the viewer. Body language speaks volumes.” Clarke Ellis He has an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art and a BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD). He began his career as an instructor at NSCAD before completing a degree in education from Queen's University.
