In this imposing steel sculpture, a figure, one hand pointing at the viewer is Robert Clarke Ellis’s tribute to Swiss sculptor, Alberto Giacometti. Giacometti was viewed by many as one of the most important sculptors of the 20th century. This laser-cut figure is painted so it absorbs light and casts its own curious shadow. Clarke Ellis’s new work integrates minimalist forms with theatrical themes. “The figurative elements in my pieces lend themselves to experiential opportunities for the viewer. Body language speaks volumes.” Clarke Ellis He has an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art and a BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD). He began his career as an instructor at NSCAD before completing a degree in education from Queen's University.
