About the Work
From beneath the black and white ripples on the surface of calm water, a glowing gold mass emerges through precise, geometric perforations in this 16 inch square image. Hand laid gold leaf behind the laser cut black and white photograph creates the illusion of depth and calm. This image is in an edition of 15. The frame on this work is a white lacquer with a silver front measuring 21.25 x 21.25 inches and 2 inches deep. Ryan Van Der Hout's photo-based work has been exhibited across Canada, the U.K. and in New York, most notably as part of the AGO’s Collector’s series, as a featured Contact exhibition and Flash Forward 2016. His work has been supported by the Ontario Arts Council. Ryan is a graduate of Ryerson's photography program. His work has been published in The Huffington Post, CBC online, and Readers Digest.
