Canadian artist Mike Salisbury has taken an iconic mid-century structure--the phone booth, modifying each to express a political viewpoint. With ‘Contradiction,’ a living tree is planted at the base of the interior of a solar-lit glass and metal booth. The sculpture has lighting elements and can be powered by solar or wired directly to an electrical outlet.“Over the last three years my phone box sculptures have used the "unanswerable phone" as an analogy for the dire subject matter of each sculpture including climate change (Out of Time), the opioid crisis (Crisis Phone 2020) the #BLM movement (Speak Your Truth).” Mike Salisbury
Mike Salisbury studied fine art at the Toronto School of Art in 1988. In 2003, he obtained his Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from the University of Guelph in 2003.
