About the Work
This minimalist outdoor sculpture in stainless steel was conceived by Shayne Dark as a contemporary reference to glacial erratics. The forces that produced erratics, stones shaped and carried often hundreds of kilometers away by ice, intersect with another force of nature, plate tectonics, that are responsible for linear cracks in the ocean floor called fracture zones. Dark's work is in included in public and private collections including Queen's University, Canada Council Art Bank, Canadian Embassy in Prague, City of Ottawa public Art Program, Federal Communications Commission, New York. He has received six Ontario Arts Council grants, and a Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant amongst other awards. Dark has exhibited widely in the US and Canada as well as in Spain and Greece.
