Glacial Series: Drop Stone Shayne Dark
- Steel and Bronze
- 18 × 14 × 14 inches
45.72 × 35.56 × 35.56 cm
This hollow, polygonal bronze indoor sculpture from the Drop Stones series with a weathered patina represents one of many "erratics" -- geometric stones, shaped and carried often hundreds of kilometres by glacial ice. Natural stones manifested here in steel creates a natural tension contrasting our experience of nature in an urban setting. Dark's works are installed at Canadian embassies and numerous corporate headquarters. His sculptures are included in many private and public collections such as Queen's University, Canada Council Art Bank, the Canadian Embassy in Prague, the City of Ottawa Public Art Program, and the Federal Communications Commission, New York. Dark's work was recently exhibited at the Brooklyn Sculpture Centre, where he was artist in residence in 2016. That same year, he was given a solo exhibition at the Albright Knox Art Gallery. Dark has received six Ontario Arts Council grants, and a Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant amongst other awards. Dark has exhibited widely in the US and Canada as well as in Spain and Greece.
