Glacial Series: Drop Stones 1, 2, & 3 Shayne Dark

This large scale outdoor installation consists of three hollow, polygonal steel boulders called Drop Stones that have a rusted, weathered patina. The works represent erratics, geometric stones shaped and carried often hundreds of kilometres by glacial ice. The largest of the Drop Stones works, this piece has been exhibited at the Albright Knox Art Gallery and the Brooklyn Botanical Garden. Natural stones manifested here in steel creates a natural tension contrasting our experience of nature in an urban setting. Individual sizes of the works are as follows: Glacial Series: Drop Stone 1- 108 x 100 x 95 inches Glacial Series: Drop Stone 2- 65 x 54 x 70 inches Glacial Series: Drop Stone 3- 36 x 40 x 38 inches Dark's work is in included in public and private collections including Queen's University, Canada Council Art Bank, Canadian Embassy in Prague, City of Ottawa public Art Program, Federal Communications Commission, New York. He has received six Ontario Arts Council grants, and a Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant amongst other awards. Dark has exhibited widely in the US and Canada as well as in Spain and Greece. A documentary on Dark's life and work, titled Artist in the Round premiered on the Discovery Channel HD Theatre in 2004.
