About Tilted Orange

Evocative in colour and form, Canadian artist Shayne Dark has created another dynamic sculpture. The industrial and the organic intersect in five tapered powder-coated angled shafts of steel as they emerge from the sculpture’s base. Dark is inspired by the natural world that surrounds his home in Kingston, Ontario. His masterful use of bright colours—this piece in punchy orange enhances the minimalist shape.

“Dark seeks to reveal the inner beauty of the things around us with the aim of fostering a direct contemplation of the world, without the mediation of the artistic sphere. In this sense, his approach is part of a renewal of our ways of undoing and inhabiting places.” Katie Chagnon, Art Historian and Curator

Shayne Dark was the artist-in-residence at the Brooklyn botanic garden in 2016 after a successful residency at the Albright Knox and Buffalo botanical garden in 2015. Sculpture magazine featured an article on Dark’s work. At Art Basel, he was named one of the top ten artists to watch. Dark’s sculptures can be found in numerous private, corporate, and public collections.
