Bodmin Moor Landscape Simon Andrew
- Oil on Panel
- 12 × 15 inches
30.5 × 38.1 cm
Intimate oil on panel landscape of the English granite moorland in a thick impasto of spring green, blues, steely grey and browns. The muscular brushwork that lends a textured surface to the canvas draws the viewer in to examine the emotive process of making. This piece is reflective of Andrew's "distilling process" that verges on abstraction but is pulled back to realism by the horizon line. Andrew graduated with his MFA from Newcastle University in northeast England. He has exhibited widely with 27 solo shows in the UK and Canada. He has received two Ontario Arts Council awards and won landscape competitions including the Laing National Landscape Competition and the Lawrence Atwell Award both in the UK. Andrew's work is in corporate, public and private collections including that of actor Mel Gibson and Her Majesty The Queen in Right. His work was featured on the cover of the Canadian band Tragically Hip's album Day for Night.
