Thames with the Eye Simon Andrew
- Oil on Board
- 12 × 15 inches
30.48 × 38.1 cm
Steely, grey waters of the Thames River separate the famed London Eye, the tallest Ferris wheel in Europe, from a docked ferry in this moody cityscape. The gestural oil impasto of this work reflects the artist's "distilling process," an emotive depiction that approaches abstraction. Andrew graduated with his MFA from Newcastle University in northeast England. He has exhibited widely with 27 solo shows in the UK and Canada. He has received two Ontario Arts Council awards and won landscape competitions including the Laing National Landscape Competition and the Lawrence Atwell Award both in the UK. Andrew's work is in corporate, public and private collections including that of actor Mel Gibson and Her Majesty The Queen in Right. His work was featured on the cover of the Canadian band Tragically Hip.
