This stunning, luminescent royal blue gown is part of award-winning Canadian sculptor Sophie DeFrancesca’s high fashion gown series. Her work pays homage to the glamorous couture of the early twentieth century when her own mother and aunts were inspired by the iconic women who wore these stylish clothes. This delicate figurative form is created out of stainless-steel and aluminum mesh, then coated in latex and metallic paint. Shadows cast by the dress are part of the installation.
“For me, clothing isn’t just a fashion, it can be loaded with significance and meaning and memory.” Sophie DeFrancesca
