Laurel Pair I Susan Collett

27 × 10 × 11 inches
68.58 × 25.4 × 27.94 cm

This exquisite clay sculpture with spectacular glazing in rich hues of blue, pink, cream and green was created by the award-winning artist Susan Collett. Shaped from earthenware paper clay, the piece was multi-fired to achieve a complex patina. “The work derives from interest in the tension of strength against fragility and as I push the work towards the edge of physical collapse, this theme becomes more potent. The work is hand-built and sculptural in nature. The use of light interplay provides a perceived fragility explored through stacking and channeling of hand-built clay platelets.” Susan Collett She studied printmaking and ceramics at the Cleveland Institute of Art. Collett is an elected member of the International Academy of Ceramics as well as the Royal Academy of the Arts. While exhibiting in North America, she has also participated in several residencies, including two in China. Collett has had several solo exhibitions and her work is in both public and private collections.
