About the Work

Thomas Wilberforce Mitchell ARCA, ALCT, OSA, SGA (1879-1958) trained under well known Toronto artist George Agnew Reid. Mitchell was a successful commercial artist and illustrator who was for a time the art director at Brigden's, a design firm run by Albert Robson and one that employed artists like Charles Comfort. Mitchell's work uses brillinat colour, showing the effects of outdoor light, sparkling sunlight and shadow. This painting is signed on the front, lower right.
