About Quadrilogy 2

From his studio overlooking the sea in Blue Rocks, Nova Scotia contemporary artist Tim Forbes creates powerful neo-minimalist paintings. Quadrilogy 2 is the second in a series of bold new predominantly black and white works. Two shapes in jet black sit one above the other on a neutral gray backdrop but they are linked by a striking thin deep blue line.
This specific blue-neither indigo nor royal -- pays homage to the famed ‘Blue’ series by the French mid-century painter Yves Klein. There’s a rhythm to the vertical pattern that encourages the viewer’s eye to move up and down the canvas changing the perspective.

“Especially in the abstract, the works must have a destination, the arrival of which is addressed in a contemplation of function, either within the emotive or within the form.” Tim Forbes.

After attending the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, a young Forbes opened a graphic design studio in Halifax. He soon moved to Toronto where, over the years he became an award-winning communications expert for a prestigious international clientele. By 2006, Forbes was creating bronze sculptures from his annex studio in a 1920’s rural Ontario schoolhouse. By 2011, his work was showcased at the Toronto International Art Fair and at the prestigious Architectural Digest Home Design Show in NYC. The multi-disciplinary artist continues to create sculptures in fiberglass, resin, bronze, wood and stainless steel. His photographic work and his paintings have appeared in both solo and group exhibitions. In the summer of 2019, Forbes left his Toronto studio and returned to the solace of the south shore in his native Nova Scotia. Galleries in Toronto, Boston and Atlanta represent his work.
