Canadian abstract artist, Tim Forbes explores gesture, spatial tension and tonal contrast in his work. With this bold carbon black and teal acrylic painting, Forbes examines the concept of pattern recognition. The inspiration for this and other works came from a 2003 novel called, ‘Pattern Recognition’ written by the cyberspace pioneer, William Gibson. “The novel's central theme involves the examination of the human desire to detect patterns or meaning and the risks of finding patterns in data… for example: cultural familiarity with brand names and tensions between art and commercialization. REPEAT stands as a single or diptych (two paintings joined—often hinged) or ongoing multiple forms. "When separated but viewed in close proximity, the mind’s response is to edit the space between.” - Forbes After completing studies at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax, Forbes established a graphic design studio and relocated to Toronto, ON. Over the years, his corporate clients have included the Body Shop, Rogers, Rolls Royce and the One-of-a-Kind Show for which he created the thumbprint logo – his own thumbprint. Recent commissions include "Leloop," a stainless-steel sculpture for Daniel Libeskind’s Toronto L Tower and "Power" created for a terrace in the Hariri Pontarini-designed Massey Tower in Toronto. "Cloud," a large porcelain white sculpture engineered to float in a pool on the rooftop terrace of The Art Shoppe condo complex in Toronto. Forbes work is held in private and corporate collections.
